Valley River Road Race & Festival


Get ready for the biggest fundraiser this fall! The Valley River Road Race & Festival is an all day event packed with tournaments, live music, a fish fry, Contra dancing and more. We will begin the day with our 4th Annual Road Bike Race at 8am (more info below) and follow it up with an afternoon of tournaments, 3-man swing rides, live music and much more. This year there are three activites to register for online: The Vally River Road Race, Snowbird Speedball Tournament (Paintball) and/or A 3-on-3 Basketball tournament.

1. RIDE IN THE RACE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Entry form to ride in the Valley River Road race is linked to this page. The entry fee to ride in the race is $30 and includes a T-shirt. There is an option to stay for dinner at SWO for $5. Check out these events and click on the link below to pre-register!

21 mile Valley Loop	This loop begins and ends at Snowbird. These 21 miles wind throughout the Andrews/Marble valley through cow pastures with scenic mountain views, crossing over the highway and following the Valley River back towards camp. This loop is flat and fast, with an uphill section towards the end.
55 mile Nantahala Loop	This course makes a figure eight, beginning and ending at Snowbird. The first 21 mile section is the Valley Loop described above. The remaining 34 miles begins with the tough Junaluska climb. This leg-burning ascent is broken up by a fast downhill segment before continuing the torture! Following the climb is a long, scenic descent that winds past the incredible waterfalls of the upper Nantahala River, climbs back out of the Nantahala gorge and returns to Snowbird.
40 mile Team Sprint Relay	This 40 mile relay takes place entirely on the 21 mile Valley Loop course. This race is for teams of two to four riders. Teams will stash riders at the start and halfway point of the loop. For example, in a four-man team each rider would complete one 10-mile “sprint,” with the ride beginning and ending at Snowbird.

2. Speedball Tournament :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Compete in a double elimination paintball tournament. The entree fee is $45 for a team of 6. Each team member will receive a mask and gun, you may bring their own if you have one. Each team will also get one case of paintballs and air for their guns. (You may buy more paint if you need it for an extra charge). There is maximum of 8 teams that can play, so the first 8 teams to sign up and pay will be the ones to compete. The tournament starts at 2pm, but players should get there early to get set up.

*If you are an individual and would like to compete in the tournament, email rob about it, we may have folks who are short some players.

3. 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This is your chance to participate in our first ever 3-on-3 basketball tournament. It will be a half-court, 3-on-3 double-elimination tournamen beginning at 3pm. Obviously you must have 3 players and it is $25 per team to enter. We only have time for so many teams to play in the tournament. Email Spencer for more details.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This is an amazing oportunity to come to Snowbird and hang out with our staff and these riders for a day. We need folks stationed all around town to mark miles, fill up coolers, pass out water and powerade, set up tables, move boxes, take out trash and more. WE need your help to make this happen. But, more than that, we need you to ride in the race! If you have a bike, you have a way to support SWO! Donate $30 bucks and ride. Turn it into a NASCAR event and go door to door and get people to sponsor you to ride in the race. Support SWO! For information about volunteering to help out with the race, contact Melissa.

The Valley River Road Race & Festival is the only Snowbird fund raiser of the year! With the money you raise for Snowbird we can send local kids to camp, hire more staff, build new elements, and more. Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year through this race. We need your help to make this happen!
