Adopted and Born Again
Spencer Davis : Ephesians 1 : Winter SWO : February 15, 2019
When we think about someone becoming a son or daughter, there are two primary ways this happens: Adoption or Birth. With both ways, a child becomes fully, legally a son or daughter of a family. They look differently though. With adoption, there are a lot of legal hoops to jump through: termination of parental rights, home studies, and financial fees. With birth, there are fewer hoops to jump through.
When we are adopted in Christ, He welcomes us into His family in both ways. Receiving salvation in Christ is like being adopted. We are bought, paid for, redeemed by Christ, and legally made right with Him. Receiving salvation in Christ is also like being born. We are born again in Christ. He legally pays for us, and then we are reborn into His family. We now bear the marks of God. We start to look like Him, with a new spiritual DNA. We are given new loves, new wants, and new personalities.
Our belonging to Christ is deeper than our belonging to our parents. We receive adoption and new birth.
