The history of the Protestant Reformation is helpful to understand so that we know that it’s vital for the Church to hold fast to the Word of God. Teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, like purgatory and penance, have no Scriptural basis. Reformation was desperately needed in the Church during the time of reformers. Knowing the history surrounding the Reformation allows modern day Christians to see the beauty of the movement that God used to preserve Scripture and save the Gospel from perversion.
