I Have Jesus, Why Do I Need the Church?

Capitalizing on Cultural Trajectories (Leaders)
Zach Mabry
We are living in a crazy time in the West where for the first time in decades Christian ideas are on the rise. We are seeing more people in church and a decline in religious “nones”. We have more young men espousing conservative values and a culture that seems to be open to embracing genuine masculinity. Plus, we have the United States and Great Britain making legal decisions that are enforcing a biblical understanding gender and sexuality. However, all of this is coming without a good, biblical understanding of the why behind it. How are we to capitalize on some of these really cool cultural movements in a way that helps point people to the life-changing message of the Gospel?

Loving the Lord with All Your Mind (Students)
Zach Mabry
In Mark 12 Jesus said, “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” In Christian discipleship it is really important for us to make sure that our actions line up with God’s standard found in the Bible, but we don’t often make it a priority to focus on our thinking. Sure we might say that we need to think on the right things, but we also need to make sure that we are thinking rightly. To do this we should make it our ambition to look at the way we are thinking and line up both the “what” and the “how” with the word of God.

A Conversation on Technology (Thursday 5pm with student pastors)
Zach Mabry / Harry McSween
This is a session that is just for student pastors that will take place at 5pm on Thursday afternoon in the Youth Pastor Lounge with Zach and Harry. Our desire is to have a conversation on how we as pastors need to respond to the influx of technology in our world today. We want to talk about how we can utilize technology in our teaching and discipleship, but also to help draw attention to some very real dangers that we need to be prepared for. We will talk through as much as we can including: smart phones, social media, and AI.

Generational Challenges and Opportunities (Leaders)
Zach Mabry
Sociologists tell us that there are 6 living generations of people living in America right now. As those in student ministry we have been called by God to be discipling 2 younger generations that have grown up in a world that has its own unique characteristics and challenges. In this session we will attempt to paint in broad strokes across generations and look at what we should be aware of, if we hope to make the Gospel understandable to the students the Lord has placed in our ministry.
