The Urgency of Loving People With the Gospel

Hank parker jr.

My family and I moved to Andrews to serve at Snowbird in the summer of 2021. It’s been a wild but awesome ride.

I recently taught a breakout at the spring Be Strong Men’s Conference about having Gospel conversations. If I have learned anything from our move from Denver, NC, to Andrews, it’s this: life moves fast and is constantly changing. We have the unchanging truth of God’s Word, we can rely on. However, the world we live in is constantly changing. Our kids grow up and move out, neighbors move away, jobs change, and loved ones die while new ones are being born.

It is easy to become comfortable and go with the flow of life, without considering these things. As followers of Jesus Christ, we need to cultivate a sense of urgency to share the Good News of Jesus in our day-to-day lives, because we don’t know what tomorrow holds. Obviously, we shouldn’t live in fear and not trust the loving sovereign hand of God to work.

Rather, we must live on mission as we trust God to be at work in the lives of those we live life with.

Oftentimes, at least for me, Gospel conversations can be awkward or even difficult. In the South, most people identify as Christian, regardless of what their lives portray. It’s not for me to decide where anyone stands with God. I want others to experience the life-changing grace of God found in Christ alone. Gospel conversations are not just for evangelism alone. The Gospel should be something we think on and speak of regularly. Sometimes people feel judged or can be hostile to any Gospel conversation, and that’s always challenging to navigate. Ultimately, it’s not about winning an argument, but rather loving people enough to speak truth into their lives.

Our mission statement at SWO goes like this:

Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the exposition of Scripture and personal relationships in order to equip the church to impact this generation.

We EXIST to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel that Jesus Christ came to this earth born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, laid down his life as a substitution for sinners who place their faith in Him alone, was buried according to the Scriptures and on the third day rose victorious from the grave defeating sin and death. He will return for his Church.

This is our mission for existence, it comes from Colossians 1:28:

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. ” – Colossians 1:28

I want to be intentional with the opportunities that God provides, whether it’s with family, students at camp, or during my travels.

I am grateful to serve at SWO, where the Scripture is held in such high regard. If you would like to find my breakout session or any of our other in-depth teachings, our Resources page offers a wealth of helpful resources that I use regularly.
