No Sanity Required Book

Our co-founder and lead pastor, Brody Holloway, has written a book sharing the history and vision of Snowbird’s beginning, and the mission of Snowbird (SWO) moving into the future. The No Sanity Required book is being edited right now and will be available at the Snack Shack (and online) in early summer.
You’ll get to read Brody’s firsthand account of the stories that formed the mission of SWO and learn more about the long-term trajectory the Lord has pointed us toward.
Why No Sanity Required?
I am often asked, “Why No Sanity Required? Where did that come from and what does it mean?” It’s a great question, and one that I answer in two parts.
First, No Sanity Required has been part slogan, part way-of-life since the very beginning of SWO. As you will soon read, the very existence of SWO is kind of insane and totally the Lord’s work. We have trusted in the Lord’s plan for SWO even when it seemed like foolishness in the world’s eyes. So, we’ve plastered it on banners, T-shirts, and stickers for over 25 years, and now No Sanity Required kind of defines this wild, unique culture we have at SWO.
Second, we want people to be so excited about who Jesus is and what he’s done that they live their lives for his glory and in pursuit of meaning that is only found in Christ. For teenagers, this means finding their identity in Christ and not allowing the pressures of the world around them to guide who they are and how they live.
The way we live our lives can be a testament to the watching world. In suffering and hardship we don’t find our peace or comfort in the things this world offers; our comfort is in Christ. When we experience happiness and abundance, we give thanks and rejoice in the Lord as the giver of all good things. Again, the manner of life we are called to seems like “foolishness and folly” to the world.
The bottom line is this: If we live our lives in obedience and faithfulness to Christ and surrender to him and his plan for our lives, the world is going to think we are crazy.
But, if we are crazy, we are crazy about Jesus. We do not adhere to or live according to the world’s wisdom. One translation says, “If we are out of our minds, we are out of our minds for Christ’s sake.” If you’re going to follow Jesus and be on mission, you do not need the world’s idea of sanity. It is simply not required.
