Paul entered into the Pharisee’s game of trying to earn God’s favor and being self-righteous about it, but rebukes them by revealing how flawed their game is. The Pharisees were trying to prove their righteousness. Paul gives his list of credentials which put their works to shame, yet concludes by stating that even he is not worthy of the Gospel of Christ. This worthiness can’t be accomplished on our own — we must rely on Christ and His Spirit in us to live as we are commanded.
