The Word Became Flesh | Advent Intro

The Advent season is a time to remember, celebrate, and share the good news of Christ coming into the world. Unfortunately, we are busy chasing down gifts, family travel schedules, and completing work deadlines. Let’s discover the Word that became flesh—Christ the Son of God.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14

This Advent guide looks to the heart of Scripture to examine what the Bible says about Jesus. Each day, we will dive into God’s Word and discover who Christ is, why He came, how He came, and what He accomplished. Look for engaging media links, biblically-driven songs, helpful videos, and family discipleship tools to help equip you.

Here is what you can expect each day:

  1. Scripture passage
  2. Discussion and commentary
  3. Reflection questions
  4. Guided prayer points
  5. Family Bible study guide

We pray that, especially during the Christmas season, the Lord will open your heart and eyes to more clearly see His glory. There is much to be distracted by, but the Word of God and the Holy Spirit give us the ability to gaze upon Christ and dwell in the infinite gift of His presence.

“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days...And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace…” (Micah 5:2–5)

The Word Became Flesh (note for parents)

There is a family discipleship section included each day. You will find the content geared primarily toward preschool and elementary-age kids, but the type of content will vary each day. Our goal here is to keep things short, vivid, and engaging for conversation—not give you a list of impossible steps. If you have teenagers at home, we recommend walking through the Individual Study section as a family and take turns reading the Scripture sections.

“Basically, there are three elements to family worship: read the Bible, pray, and sing.”

Donald Whitney

Let’s stand back and marvel at God’s grace and sovereignty, and focus on God this Christmas. May we join with the angels singing, “Glory to God in the highest” (Luke 2:14).

Join this 25-day Advent journey, The Things Concerning Himself, as we worship Christ and celebrate his coming.
