“Peace To You!” | Missions Session
Brody Holloway : Missions Conference : Luke 24:36-53 : April 20, 2018
When Jesus appeared to the disciples in Luke 24, it signified the most significant moment in history—Jesus is alive! He has defeated sin and death! In this moment, Jesus didn’t only confirm His resurrection to the men, but He came and joined them and offered them peace. As we often do, the disciples responded with fear and worry. Many people in our culture today spend their time living in fear of tragedy instead of trusting that the Lord will provide and satisfy them in every season, which is precisely what the disciples feared. No matter how old you are, how much money you make, or how content you feel where you are, peace will be most real in believers’ lives in times of pain, loss, conflict, confusion, and doubt.
In Luke 24, Jesus comes to the disciples following a few days of confusion and doubt; what Jesus does—the first thing he does—is He offers them peace. He gave them grace and compassion and helped them to understand what had happened despite their doubt. He taught them the Scriptures and empowered their ministry.
The disciples were eyewitnesses of the Resurrection, and Jesus taught them how to go out and share the truth of the Gospel with others. We are under the same command and commission. We are to live by the same power and proclaim the same Gospel and rejoice and worship in the same manner!
